You will explore the major events, ideas, and processes that have shaped the region from the end of World War I to the present day. Topics include the legacy of colonialism, state-building, inter-state conflicts and their consequences, the persistence of authoritarian regimes, and recent democratization efforts. </p><p>The course also examines the region’s evolving role in global politics during the 21st century. Through lectures, seminars, and case studies, you will learn to analyse how domestic, regional, and international factors interact and influence political and social developments. The course equips you with critical thinking skills and a deeper understanding of the historical context behind current issues in the Middle East and North Africa.</p>
