Islamic Studies: Islam between Ideals and Practice

<p>What does Islam look like in people’s everyday lives - and why does it vary across different places and communities? In this course, you will explore the tension between religious ideals and the ways religion is actually practiced.</p><p>This is a 7.5-credit course in Islamic Studies. You will study how Islam takes shape in practice and how religious ideals are interpreted and applied in different contexts.</p><p>The course focuses on the diversity of Muslim religious life. You will gain knowledge of how social, political, economic, and cultural factors influence the ways religion is lived and understood. You will also engage with questions about what counts as “correct Islam” and how such boundaries are negotiated and transformed over time.</p><p>The course is offered as a standalone course and may be included in a degree in History of Religions or in Religious Studies and Theology. The instruction is conducted in both Swedish and English.</p>
