Overview
<p>How have key texts shaped Islam throughout history - and how are they interpreted today? In this course, you will engage directly with the central texts, concepts, and ideas that have influenced Muslim societies for more than a thousand years.</p><p>This is a 7.5-credit course in Islamic Studies. You will study key texts and thinkers in Islamic intellectual history and learn how ethical, philosophical, and legal ideas have developed and influenced society over time.</p><p>The course provides an overview of both classical and modern texts that have shaped Muslim beliefs, practices, and intellectual traditions. You will also be introduced to scholarly approaches to interpreting and analysing such texts.</p><p>The course is offered as a standalone course and may be included in a degree in History of Religions or in Religious Studies and Theology. The instruction is conducted in both Swedish and English.</p>

Entry requirements
General entry requirements and successful completion of at least 15 credits within Religious Studies: Level 1 (REVA10/ÄRED11), of which at least 5 credits must consist of Module 4 Jewish and Islamic traditions. Alternatively, general eligibility and successful completion of at least 15 credits within Islamic Studies: Level 1 (ISLA11), or the equivalent.
