Overview
<p>How is language research carried out in practice? In this course, you will explore current topics in Japanese linguistics, participate in research seminars, and complete your own project based on a research question of your choice.</p><h3>Explore Japanese Linguistics</h3><p>This course introduces you to research topics and methods in Japanese linguistics. Through seminars and work with academic texts, you will develop your understanding of how language can be studied and analysed.<br/>You will practise summarising and discussing linguistic research in English or Japanese. The course also helps you develop your academic writing skills and use language that is appropriate for academic contexts.<br/></p><h3>An Independent Research Project</h3><p>A key part of the course is an independent project. With support from the course instructor, you will choose a topic within Japanese linguistics, search for relevant literature, and formulate a research question. You will also reflect on which research methods are suitable for investigating your chosen question.</p><p>Throughout the course, you will strengthen your ability to critically evaluate research and reflect on your own development as an academic writer.<br/></p>

Entry requirements
90 credits in Japanese comprising of sequential courses (excluding beginner-level courses) or 60 credits in Linguistics (General Linguistics or Phonetics) comprising of sequential courses, and English 6/English Level 2.
