I denna kurs får du en orientering om vilken roll språket latin har spelat i den europeiska kulturen genom tiderna. Kursen innehåller inte språkstudier i egentlig mening, men du får en överblick över latinets språkliga struktur och på vilka sätt denna skiljer sig från svenskan. Du får lite smakprov på latinsk text i form av till exempel inskrifter och bevingade ord och du får läsa latinska texter i översättning. Dessutom ingår ett kulturhistoriskt studium av de historiska miljöer, både antiken och efterantik tid, där latin har spelat en framträdande roll. En introduktion i latinets roll i de moderna språken ingår också.
