<p>When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, it wasn’t just politics that changed - literature took new directions too. In this course, you’ll explore how German-speaking authors have portrayed identity, history, and social transformation in a reunified nation.</p><p>This course offers both broad and in-depth insights into German-language literature after 1989, with a focus on novels. You’ll read and analyse works that reflect how Germany’s history and culture have evolved since reunification.</p><p>You’ll learn how literature addresses questions of identity, memory, and reckoning with the past - and how it contributes to shaping a new cultural self-image in modern Germany. The course also provides tools to interpret and analyse texts from both literary-historical and narrative-theoretical perspectives.<br/></p>
