Overview
Are you interested in identifying chemical hazards and protecting both the environment and human health? The Environmental Toxicology specialisation in the Master's Programme in Biology covers the full spectrum of chemical effects on nature, from biochemical processes within cells to physiological effects on organs, individuals, populations, and ecosystems. You will gain a strong theoretical foundation in cell biology, animal physiology and ecotoxicology, combined with practical skills in risk assessment, environmental monitoring and chemical testing. The programme covers the entire chain of chemical effects, from biochemical processes in cells to population and ecosystem levels. The programme is flexible – you choose courses based on your interests and career goals. The second year is mainly devoted to a degree project, which can be carried out within the university's research groups or in collaboration with external partners. All of our teachers are active researchers with in-depth subject knowledge. We place great importance on training you in a scientific approach, and you will gain insight into the latest research. Our teachers encourage discussion, and you are expected to participate actively in lectures and laboratory sessions. As a biology student, you will also receive systematic communication training, which is in high demand in the workplace. The programme is suitable for you if you want to work in environmental protection, chemical management or research. Past students have gone on to roles in government, consultancies and academia. The language of instruction is English.
