Overview
The Master's programme in English linguistics gives you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the study of the English language. You will develop knowledge in the area, learn to apply research methods and be trained in academic writing. The programme includes compulsory and elective courses where teaching usually takes place in small seminar groups with teachers who are specialists in the field. The English linguistics focus is oriented towards research in areas such as corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, English as a foreign language, and stylistics. The programme is taught in English. The skills acquired through the programme are those required in areas such as journalism and media, publishing, library work, tourism and translation. The programme also provides excellent preparation for studies at the doctoral level. Several graduates have gone on to do a PhD and become university lecturers.

Entry requirements
_Academic requirements_ A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university, with a specialisation in languages or other humanities or an equivalent degree. Also required is 60 credits in English, linguistics or another language subject. _Language requirements_ Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 7. This requirement can be met either by achieving the required score on an internationally recognised test, or by previous upper secondary or university studies in some countries.
