Overview
Geochemistry is concerned with the concentration and distribution of chemical substances in the dynamic Earth system. Geochemistry uses essential chemical concepts and analytical chemistry for the characterization of air, water, soil, sediments, and rocks. Quantitative modelling of geochemical reactions and mass transport are a central component of modern geochemistry. The discipline plays a central role in raw material extraction like critical metal exploitation needed in the green energy transition, the use and storage of renewable energy, and in climate science research. Geochemical analyses of soils, sediment, groundwater, lakes, rivers, and the sea are critical in the assessment of critical ecosystem functions and play a central role in the management of sustainable clean water resources.

Entry requirements
For admission to the program, knowledge equivalent to a natural science or technical bachelor's degree is required, which includes at least 90 credits in geology, geoscience, marine geoscience or environmental science. In addition, 15 credits in geochemistry or 15 credits in chemistry are required, as well as a total of 15 credits in mathematics, which may include numerical methods and statistics. Swedish upper secondary school course English 6 or equivalent.
