Master's Programme in Language and Linguistics, Classical Languages

<p>The Master’s Programme in Language and Linguistics is intended for you who are interested in increasing your theoretical understanding of linguistics. In the language-specific specialisations, you also improve your knowledge of the language and your language proficiency.</p><p>The MA programme in Language and Linguistics consists of seven different specialisations and 18 subject areas. Note, however, that not all specialisations and subject areas are offered every year. </p><p>The specialisation in Classical Languages offers tracks in Latin or Ancient Greek. The Latin track comprises courses in Classical Latin, Medieval Latin and Neo-Latin. In Lund, we are particularly strong in Neo-Latin and a number of theses have been written in the field in recent years. Those of you who specialise in Latin take a number of courses in Latin language and literature, as well as a number of courses that can be taken by students of all specialisations, ensuring that the programme covers the breadth of linguistics. It is desirable that the subject of the Master’s thesis is defined at an early stage to enable you to select courses that will facilitate your work with the thesis.</p><p>In the Greek track, you follow the development of the Greek language and Greek literature from antiquity to the Middle Ages. The programme involves both the study of texts from various epochs and of the influence exercised by Greek on other languages and on the Medieval and modern culture of Europe. Further, you will study Humanist Greek texts. The specialisation consists of courses both directly related to and outside of the core subject.</p>
