Master's Programme in Language and Linguistics, Swedish as a Second Language

<p>The MA in Language and Linguistics offers a unique opportunity for pursuing advanced studies in languages and linguistics at the MA level. It is intended for students who are interested in increasing their knowledge of language and broadening their theoretical understanding of linguistic questions.</p><p>The MA in Language and Linguistics consists of seven different specialisations and 18 subject areas. Note, however, that not all specialisations and subject areas are offered every year. </p><p>Swedish as a Second Language is a multifaceted discipline situated within the broader field of multilingualism. It encompasses aspects ranging from the structural components of language to societal and educational issues. The subject holds an evident relevance in a labour market shaped by an increasingly globalised society. Students specialising in Swedish as a Second Language within the Master’s programme take general courses on language acquisition in children and adults, as well as specialised courses in linguistic analysis from the perspectives of language development and language use, alongside studies of grammatical and phonological development in a second language.</p><p>Successful completion of this specialisation presupposes a solid theoretical foundation and advanced proficiency in Swedish.</p>
