In the Master's Programme in Languages, you choose to deepen your knowledge in one or more main areas of the wide domains taught at an advanced level within the Faculty of Languages at Uppsala University: Language, Linguistics, Literature and more. Courses from other faculties can also be included in the degree for further specialisation. In the Master's Programme in Languages, specialising in linguistics, you will gain a deeper understanding of this central aspect of the shared human world, as well as practical experience in collecting and analysing empirical data. The discipline of linguistics is the scientific study of language. Linguists document and describe individual languages and attempt to answer questions about why language is the way it is. During the programme, a work-oriented seminar series, along with study visits, is organised for students in all the specialisations within the programme. The programme is research preparatory. Some of the program's graduates have gone on to postgraduate studies, others to careers related to languages.

Entry requirements
_Academic requirements_ A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. The main field of study must be general linguistics. _Language requirements_ Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6. This requirement can be met either by achieving the required score on an internationally recognised test, or by previous upper secondary or university studies in some countries.
