Master's Programme in Scandinavian Studies

The Master's Programme in Scandinavian Studies gives you the opportunity to study Scandinavian languages, literature, history and culture. The programme gives you broad and deep knowledge of Scandinavian languages ​​or literature, depending on which of the program's two specialisations you choose. You can thus delve into everything from runology and Icelandic to onomastics and grammar. You can also choose to improve your knowledge in everything from Nordic poetry and 18th-century literature to literary sociology and political rhetoric. There is also the opportunity to do an internship within the program. Through the program's elective courses, you can tailor the education based on your interests and create your own specialisation. For example, in your overall course of study, you can choose to focus on a more practical track, by taking courses on, for example, technical language, communication in the workplace, practical publishing knowledge, rhetoric or project management. Regardless of the specialisation, the programme provides good conditions for both qualified work and further studies at the doctoral level. All teaching is in Swedish and the education therefore gives you good opportunities to develop communicative skills in parallel with theoretical knowledge. The thesis is written in one of the Scandinavian languages. In addition to the scientific training, the education thus provides very solid training in language skills in scientific and professional contexts. The program also provides a strong basis for further studies at the doctoral level in Nordic languages or literary studies.
