<p>The Master’s Thesis is the culminating course of the programme. You conduct an independent research project on a defined problem related to the social dimensions of climate change and potential pathways for addressing it.</p><p>In this course, you will take on the role of an independent researcher, exploring a question that matters to you and contributes to the growing body of knowledge on climate change and its societal dimensions. Through rigorous inquiry, critical reflection, and close engagement with current research, you will develop the skills to generate new insights and address pressing climate challenges from an interdisciplinary perspective in the social sciences.</p><p>During this course, you deepen your understanding of the connections between climate science, social theory, and climate policy. You engage with current research, identify knowledge gaps, and apply relevant theories and methods to investigate a complex issue of your choice. Throughout, you develop advanced skills in research design, critical analysis, and academic communication.<br/><br/>The course challenges you to independently formulate research questions, critically evaluate scientific literature, and integrate knowledge from different disciplines. You explore the implications of climate research and practice for broader societal issues, while reflecting on ethical considerations, scientific positionality, and the role of research in advancing sustainable societal transformation.</p>

Entry requirements
To be admitted to the course, the student must have fulfilled course requirements of at least 60 higher education credits in the Master’s Programme in Climate Change and Society (LUCAS), 120 credits. A good command of spoken and written English, equivalent to English 6/B (advanced) proficiency in the Swedish secondary system, is required. Equivalent assessments will be made according to national guidelines.
