Overview
In this course you will learn how microorganisms shape and change our environment. Infectious diseases are on their way back as one of the scourges of mankind, hence many bacteria and parasites are resistant to the antibiotics we use to fight them. The course will give you a good foundation for understanding and using microorganisms in all branches of biology they affect, and also the practical know-how you need to handle them. The focus is on microorganisms in their natural surroundings, including their interaction with other organisms and the environment. The course have the following main themes: Microbial diversity and evolution, Microbial cell biology and developmental biology, Metabolism and physiology, Cooperation, attack and defence, and also Applications.

Completed courses of 120 credits including 60 credits in biology and 30 credits in chemistry. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
