Overview
I kursen ingår klassificering och nomenklatur av mikroorganismer. Uppbyggnad av virus och prokaryota celler samt deras fysiologi och tillväxtkrav tas upp. Vidare belyses prokaryota genomets organisation och genöverföring mellan prokaryota celler samt antibiotikas verkningsmekanismer och bakteriers resistensmekanismer. Kursen behandlar även den sjukdomsframkallande förmågan hos mikroorganismer (virus, bakterier, svampar och parasiter), relaterade infektioner samt normalflorans betydelse för vår hälsa. Smittskydd och lagstiftning kring smittskydd tas upp. I kursen ingår ett grupparbete om antibiotikaresistens där även internationella aspekter samt hållbarhet belyses.

För tillträde till kursen krävs godkända kurser om 8 hp kursen Grundläggande laboratorievetenskap från biomedicinsk analytikerprogrammet, eller motsvarande.
