Kursen behandlar modern hinduism, det vill säga formuleringar av hinduism som vuxit fram från 1800-talet och framåt, och som legat till grund för många av de yoga-och meditationsrörelser som fått global genomslagskraft idag. Mer specifikt fokuserar kursen på följande teman: - Vad har kolonialism, orientalism, och nationalism haft för roll i att forma och definiera den hinduiska traditionen i modern tid? - Vad utmärker hinduism som en global religion idag, och hur kan vi förstå det stora internationella intresset för praktiker som yoga och tantra i relation till den hinduiska traditionen? Kursen riktar sig till dem som har ett intresse av att fördjupa sina kunskaper om modern hinduism, liksom till dem som är intresserade av frågor kring hur religiösa traditioner responderat på och utvecklats genom moderniserings- och globaliseringsprocesser.
