Music and Music Teaching 2

The course comprises four modules. Module 1: Instrument, 4 ECTS cr. \- lessons where students study and interpret relevant repertoire on their main instrument, \- descriptions and critical analysis of various practice methods, \- ensemble playing where students collaborate to study and interpret selected repertoire, \- reflections and exercises regarding their own role in ensemble playing and fundamental approaches to musical interaction, and \- shared lessons, concerts, and various performance opportunities where students can present music individually or together with peers. Module 2: Instrument continuation, 3 ECTS cr. \- lessons where students learn to play different accompaniment patterns on the chord instrument (piano), \- lessons where students practice various accompaniment figures on ensemble instruments such as keyboard, electric bass, and drums, and \- training in delivering song lyrics using their own speaking voice. Module 3: Music education, 5 ECTS cr. \- descriptions, critical analyses, and discussions of music education issues, methodological aspects of instrumental teaching at different levels, and group methodological approaches to music education, \- supervised practice teaching on the main instrument within compulsory or optional school settings, \- reflections on completed supervised practice teaching, \- descriptions and critical analyses of curriculum guidelines for primary and secondary schools, and \- fundamental conducting techniques, including various time signatures, cues, cut-offs, fermatas, and dynamics. Module 4: Music knowledge, 3 ECTS cr. \- practical ear training in large groups, \- sessions where students, in level-based groups, practice notation and reproduction of rhythms, melodies, and chords, write harmonies, and compose using digital tools, and \- descriptions and critical analyses of music in relation to humanity, ethnicity, gender, society, and culture from both historical and national/international perspectives.
