Norm Creative perspectives on Design, Power, and Change

<p><strong>How can snow clearance be feminist? And why do sensors in automatic taps often work better for people with lighter skin tones?</strong></p><p>The course <i>Norm Creative perspectives on Design, Power, and Change&nbsp;</i>introduces current debates on how norms are reflected, reproduced and challenged through design, and how inclusive, norm-creative design processes can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable society.</p><p>The course explores design in its broadest sense, from urban planning and public services to product design, digital applications and everyday objects. You will examine how design shapes people's experiences and opportunities, while gaining practical and theoretical tools to address some of today’s most pressing societal challenges through critical and creative perspectives on design. Drawing on literature, lectures, workshops and seminars, the course introduces a range of theoretical approaches, including intersectionality, norm-critical perspectives, science and technology studies (STS), decolonial theory and posthumanism.</p><p>The course is taught on campus, and the language of instruction is English.</p>
