Kursen behandlar hur musiklivet ser ut idag, med tyngdpunkt på svenska förhållanden. I kursen studerar vi hur musiklivet är strukturerat, till exempel enskilda lyssnares musikvanemönster och den statliga kulturpolitiken. Vi diskuterar även musikens funktion i dagens samhälle genom att analysera synen på musik som vara och olika maktstrukturer i musiklivet. Kursen behandlar även hur det svenska musiklivet förändrats sedan 1970-talet och det svenska musiklivets relation till omvärlden. Undervisning på engelska kan förekomma.
