Overview
<p>How can we understand and develop pedagogical practices outside the classroom in a time of ecological and social change? This course offers a theoretical specialization in outdoor education and sustainability pedagogy, with a focus on current research. By connecting historical and contemporary perspectives on the role of the environment in education, we explore how place, learning and sustainability interact.</p><p>The course engage with central theories and concepts in outdoor education and environmental and sustainability education, and provides tools for analysing didactic choices with regard to inclusion, accessibility and cultural aspects. Particular emphasis is placed on ethical issues, such as the relationship between humans and nature and the educator's responsibility in sustainability issues.</p><p>By working with concrete didactic situations in natural environments, the student develops his/her ability to reflect on and renew his/her pedagogical practice. The course also provides the opportunity to immerse oneself in academic communication and to formulate and defend one's own positions in dialogue with current research.</p><p>Teaching takes place through literature studies, seminars and didactic analysis assignments. The student works both individually and in groups. </p>

A Teacher or Pre-school Teacher Degree of at least 180 ECTS credits or Bachelor's Degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, with a major in one of the following subjects Education, Pedagogy, Pedagogical work, Biology, Ecology, Geography or Sustainable development or Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, and additional clearly documented work experience of at least one year, full time, in outdoor or sustainability education or the equivalent English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (Engelska 6 eller Engelska nivå 2) Exemption from Swedish
