Overview
This course concerns the identification and origins of igneous and metamorphic rocks within a plate tectonic framework. Lectures and laboratories provide a basis for understanding the physical and chemical processes that control rock formation. Modern petrographic, mineralogical, geochemical and phase equilibria techniques combine with fieldwork to link observations and theory.

Access to the course requires knowledge corresponding to Geological sciences 15 credits (GG2010) and Mineralogy and petrology 7.5 credits (GG4211), alternatively the courses Tellus I - Geology, 15 credits (GG2008), Tellus II - Geology, 12.5 credits (GG4039 ), Tellus III - Geology, 2.5 credits (GG4042), Mineralogy 7.5 credits (GG4146).
