Overview

From the first fractions of a second after the Big Bang to today’s dark matter puzzle, this course takes you on a fast, rigorous tour of modern cosmology and astroparticle physics. Learn the principles that connect the Universe’s origin, composition, and fate.

Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics is a course on master and doctoral studies level. The course builds a modern, unified picture of the Universe through the lens of particle physics and cosmology. It develops the theoretical tools to follow cosmic history - from the hot Big Bang to the present expansion - showing how microphysical laws shape large-scale structure.

You will learn the core ingredients of the standard cosmological model, such as Hubble law, Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) geometry, energy components and their dynamics. You will also learn how early-Universe thermodynamics drives key milestones such as Big Bang nucleosynthesis.

Foundational links to astroparticle physics are treated throughout: the evidence for and modelling of dark matter, the role of dark energy in cosmic acceleration, and how particle processes leave relics that we can test today.

Why should you take this course? It combines first-principles derivations at the blackboard with problem-driven practice, preparing you for research-level study in cosmology, astrophysics, or high-energy theory.
