Overview

Player Experience (PX) work is a concept that is rapidly gaining attention both within academia and the games industry. In this course, we will focus on making in-depth critical assessments of various evaluation methods and tools that are often used in PX-related work. These evaluation methods often have their roots in academic research methods. This means that there is a plethora of research literature that discusses methods, tools, epistemological perspectives, and ethical considerations that are important to grasp when constructing new forms of PX evaluation processes. Understanding the history of research methods and epistemology is a fundament to understanding how to work with PX in a way that is not only effective in providing useful results, but also how to ensure that games and game interfaces are inclusive and promote sustainable growth of the games industry.
