Kursen belyser den historiska framväxten och förändringen av EU med fokus på integrationsprocesserna från olika integrationsteoretiska perspektiv. Vidare diskuteras och problematiseras de formella beslutsprocesserna och hur den formella maktdelningen fungerar mellan EU:s institutioner och mellan institutionerna och medlemsstaterna i relation till olika politikområden. Kursen presenterar även grunden för det svenska politiska systemet och olika nivåer av styrning. EU:s sammanlänkning med medlemsstaterna diskuteras med särskilt fokus på det svenska politiska systemet och dess konsekvenser ur ett demokrati- och medborgarperspektiv.
