Overview
The course programme is arranged in the form of full-time studies in a coherent programme. Parts of the course may be arranged as distance or web-based teaching. The programme gives 75 higher education credits and consists of obligatory and optional courses at advanced level, on the job training and an independent project. The student is allowed to structure an individual competence profile based on his/her own needs and interests. Obligatory courses are at Kristianstad University College. Optional courses may be arranged at other colleges. On the job training covers health care and medical care at the first level, primary health care, which includes surgeries run by nurses, children’s health care, school health care and home health care, as well as terminal care. During the on the job training, obligatory seminars are arranged at the place of the course or at established study locations. The student carries out independent studies and study tasks that are integrated in the OJT. The independent study consists of 15 credits and leads to in-depth studies of the main area, nursing. International exchange is possible. The educational standpoint is based on a faith in the student’s ability to take responsibility for his/her course programme and personal development. Great importance is placed on being independently accountable for and leading nursing work on a scientific basis from a holistic perspective. Study tasks and seminars are based on real situations in which students must convert theoretical knowledge into skills in concrete healthcare and medical care. The forms of examination are aimed at developing and assessing students’ ability to valuate knowledge, skills and approaches on the basis of examination goals described. Courses in the programme Course 1 Health and coordination from a holistic perspective and scientific methods in Primary health care specialist nursing 15 credits The course contains theoretical perspectives on health, communication, supervision, applied exercises and scientific theory and methods, including current research relevant to the area. Course 2 Pharmacology and pathology with drug prescription for district nurses,15 credits The course provides the competence required to prescribe articles of consumption, technical means of assistance and drugs for certain conditions of illness. Course 3 Nursing for health from a life perspective - On the job training, 22.5 credits. On the job training in children’s health care, school health care, surgeries run by nurses, home health care and terminal care. Course 4 Independent project, 15 credits The independent project may consist of literature studies or empirical studies in the Graduate Diploma in Primary Health Care Specialist Nursing sphere of activities. Course 5 Optional course, 7.5 credits Courses may be chosen at an advanced level in accordance with an individual study plan drawn up in consultation with the teacher responsible for the course.
