Overview
Microeconomics is about describing and understanding how markets function. People and firms must make choices because of limited resources. First, the course examines the factors that determine demand and supply in a market and how these lead to market equilibrium. The interaction between supply and demand is analyzed under different market conditions, such as monopoly and competition. Furthermore, the course addresses issues related to resource allocation when there is no functioning market. Examples include air pollution or greenhouse gases. Here, we discuss why such problems arise and how governments and markets can address them.
