Kursen ger en helhetssyn på produktionslogistik, planeringsrutiner, ekonomi och materialflöden samt produktionsprocessens informationsflöde. Utifrån det tillverkande företagets övergripande styrning, avseende ekonomi, organisation och strategi, studeras förutsättningar och krav för en väl fungerande produktionsprocess med fokus på kundvärden i form av leveranssäkerhet, kostnader och kvalitet. Begreppet lean production och hur detta påverkar utformning och styrning av verksamheten är ett genomgående tema genom alla delar i kursen.
