Professional Development 2 for the Masters Programme in Sports Psychology

The aim of the course is for students to acquire basic knowledge and the opportunity to deepen skills in terms of empathy, self-reflection, self-care, reflective conversation, and process management. The course does this by switching between theoretical elements and practical exercises, divided into two parts. With the help of theory and practice, the course will highlight the importance of continuous development of empathy, self-knowledge and self-care, as well as continuous training in different ways to lead and understand group processes where three or more are involved. The course deals with ethical aspects, both in relation to classmates, to the student himself and to clients. The course is based on the knowledge and skills acquired previously in the psychologist program. The part is also a preparation for client work and upcoming courses in professional development. Part 1: Professional development and self-awareness, 3 credits The part aims at increased self-awareness through self-reflection, in-depth knowledge of one's own patterns (thoughts, emotions, behaviors), practice in self-care and affect awareness. This is done in a group with classmates and a group leader who is a legal psychologist. The group meets at regular intervals and between the meetings the student performs in-depth work / exercises according to instructions that are also submitted for reflection before the next group opportunity. Furthermore, the course addresses how own experiences and patterns affect the student in relation to himself, fellow students, future professional role and clients. The course also aims to become aware of and increase empathic abilities and professional attitudes towards clients. Part 2: Process management, 3 credits The component aims at increased skills to lead group processes for different purposes and in different contexts. Examples of conversation processes are psychological treatment in groups, family treatment and development of work and sports groups. Examples of events that must be handled through practical skills are groups in crisis, conflict, destructiveness, cooperation difficulties and low performance.
