Behörig är den som saknar en examen som kan vara behörighetsgivande enligt 2 kap. 16 § skollagen (2010:800) för legitimation som lärare eller förskollärare, om han eller hon har genomgått högskoleutbildningar eller tidigare motsvarande utbildning eller har förvärvat arbetslivserfarenhet som lärare eller förskollärare i den omfattning som behövs för att uppnå examen inom 120 hp samt är verksam som lärare eller förkollärare hos svensk skolhuvudman. Till VAL vid Jönköping University gäller särskilt behörighetskrav i Svenska 3 eller Svenska som andraspråk 3. Eller: Svenska nivå 3 eller Svenska som andraspråk nivå 3.
