This course focuses on publishing in an era where digitalization and constant connectivity have transformed media technologies, workflows, and markets. You will analyze how these changes affect the entire process of publication – from production and distribution to media consumption. Through the concept of media ecology, contemporary dynamics of publishing are linked to innovation and transformation, giving you the tools to understand and critically analyze the role of publishing in today’s complex media landscape. The course combines practical components with historical and theoretical perspectives, providing a broad understanding of the development of publishing. Different publishing genres are studied in relation to relevant media-historical frameworks, showing how publishing practices have been shaped by technological change and societal conditions.
