Overview
Kursen utgår från den polemik och polarisering mellan taoism och konfucianism som framträder på 400-talet f. Kr. och som i olika varianter återkommer hos alla framträdande kinesiska tänkare fram till vår tideräknings början. Kursen är starkt textcentrerad, och kretsar kring närläsningar av ett urval ur den omfattande kinesiska textkorpusen från 1200-talet f. Kr. och framåt. Det kinesiska skriftspråkets uppbyggnad diskuteras. Kursen lägger även stor vikt vid frågan om, och i så fall hur, ett utomeuropeiskt tankesystem såsom det kinesiska kan representeras i en västerländsk filosofisk diskurs, och huruvida kinesiska begrepp såsom li och shi på ett adekvat sätt kan översättas som ”ritualism” och ”poesi”.
