Religious Educator

To be eligible for admission to the Master's program in Eastern Christian Studies, applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree, of 180 higher education credits, which includes an independent thesis demonstrating the applicant’s proficiency in academic writing, or equivalent, in humanities, social sciences, educational sciences, theology, or health sciences, as well as 60 credits in Religious Studies/Theology, or Eastern Christian Studies, or equivalent competence (as part of, or in addition to the Bachelor’s degree). Students with backgrounds in other relevant subjects may also be admitted after a special examination. Applicants must also demonstrate knowledge equivalent to the English 6 proficiency level. Applicants who have completed their previous studies under earlier education systems are eligible for the Master's program in Eastern Christian Studies if they have a Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in humanities, social sciences, educational sciences, theology, or health sciences, provided it comprises a minimum of 120 (old system) credits, which includes an independent thesis demonstrating the applicant’s proficiency in academic writing, as well as 40 (old system) credits in Religious Studies/Theology, or Eastern Christian Studies, or equivalent competence (as part of, or in addition to the Bachelor’s degree). Students with backgrounds in other relevant subjects may also be admitted after a special examination. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate knowledge equivalent to the English 6 proficiency level. A person who lacks 60 higher education credits in Religious Studies/Theology, but holds an approved bachelor’s degree (as described above), may complete a one-year pre-master’s of 60 advanced-level credits in Religious Studies and Theology. This replaces the first semester of the Religious Educator Program. A person who lacks an independent degree project (thesis), but otherwise meets the eligibility requirements, may complete the latter part of the pre-master — totaling 22.5 higher education credits — as freestanding courses. Applicants who lack formal qualifications can apply for assessment of prior learning, i.e. other merits that can (potentially) be regarded as constituting the prerequisites needed to successfully pursue the educational program. If the applicant’s English proficiency skills cannot be verified, the Dean of Students can decide on an assessment of prior learning in English. If a foreign degree cannot be verified, the Dean of Students can decide on an assessment of prior learning.
