Responsible and Ethical Use of AI Tools in Teaching and Learning

<p>This course invites you to explore, test, and critically reflect on a range of AI tools that already influence how we read, write, and learn. With a focus on ethics, policies, and practical application, the course equips you to use AI in an informed, responsible, and creative way.</p><p>The course provides an introduction to how different AI tools work and how they can—and cannot—be used in academic and professional contexts. You will work with examples of machine translation services such as Google Translate, generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, and proofreading tools such as Grammarly. Together, we examine their strengths and limitations, as well as their implications in areas where working with texts and reflecting on written information are key components of learning.</p><p>Issues related to academic integrity, ethics, ownership, and independent intellectual work run as a central theme throughout the course. You will also gain insight into how AI policies shape what is permitted—and why. The course does not require any advanced technical skills or programming knowledge; instead, the focus is on critical understanding and reflective use.</p>
