Overview
Risk analysis is an important tool in many industries and organisations in making decisions regarding complex systems where actions and events can influence safety. In the course, different types of safety assessments used in the nuclear industry will be discussed. The focus will be on probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) and to some extent deterministic safety assessment (DSA). Statistical tools will be used to calculate the risk for different outcomes given certain starting points. Through exercises and hand-in problems, you will learn to formulate, apply and analyse different models for safety assessment in real situations. These skills will be confirmed in a project using PSA in an energy sector that you chose.

Entry requirements
150 credits in science/engineering including 30 credits at Master's level. 5 credits in basic mathematical statistics. Participation in Nuclear Power - Technology and Systems, Hydroelectric Power - Technology and Systems, Analysis of Electric Power Systems, Energy Physics II with Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Reactor Physics, or Power System Analysis. These courses may also be taken in parallel. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
