Overview
I kursen behandlas vetenskapsteorins grunder och dess historia och utveckling fram till nutid. Speciellt fokus riktas mot vetenskapsteorins moderna utveckling under 1900-talet vilken omfattar positivismen, falsifikationismen, paradigmteorin och postmodernismen. I kursen behandlas distinktionen mellan kvalitativa och kvantitativa metoder samt ett urval av metoder för datainsamling så som etnografiska metoder, intervjumetodik, fallstudier, fokusgruppintervjuer, experimentella metoder och designforskning. Därtill omfattar kursen hur man utifrån teori och metod analyserar empiri. Grundläggande vetenskapsteoretiska problem som kursen behandlar är huruvida det finns en vetenskaplig metod, om vetenskapen är rationell och objektiv, samt om vetenskapliga teorier kan vara sanna. I kursen formuleras och diskuteras olika sätt att ställa upp ett forskningsproblem, vilket sedan kan utvecklas till en forskningsplan.
