I kursen utforskas huvudsakligen sociologiska teorier tillsammans med historiska perspektiv i relation till fenomen som berör religion, sekularisering och postsekularisering, demokrati och värderingsförändringar. Detta innefattar en grundläggande introduktion till för kursen centrala begrepp såsom bildning, identitet och ideologi. Värderingar och livssyner, på individ- samt kollektiv nivå, tenderar att förändras utifrån allt som sker i den globalt sammanvävda samtiden.
