För att vara behörig till kursen krävs socionomexamen omfattande 210 högskolepoäng, alternativt kandidatexamen i socialt arbete omfattande 180 högskolepoäng eller kandidatexamen i annat näraliggande område. Därutöver krävs genomförda fördjupningskurser på avancerad nivå i socialt arbete omfattande minst 30 högskolepoäng (detta ingår i socionomprogrammet om 210 högskolepoäng), eller motsvarande kunskaper.
