Sociologi handlar om att förstå och förklara samhällen och människornas handlande i dem. Inom ämnet studeras sådant som människors levnadsförhållanden, makt- och könsrelationer, ojämlikhet, identitet, arbetsmarknad, välfärd, etniska relationer, sociala rörelser, familjeliv, brottslighet, boende, segregation, och mycket mer.
