Kursen Barndomssociologi introducerar barndomssociologins uppkomst som ett nytt forskningsområde i sociologiämnet samt dess utvecklings över tid från 1980-talet och framåt. Detta omfattar både teoretiska perspektiv, centrala begrepp och aktuella empiriska forskningsområden. Kursen syftar till att ge studenterna förutsättningar att kunna identifiera, förhålla sig till och använda barndomssociologins grundläggande byggstenar. Kursen omfattar tematiska fördjupningsområden såsom barns rätt och delaktighet, barns villkor och ojämlikhet, samt betydelsen av sociala kategoriseringar i exempelvis ålder, kön och etnicitet för barn och barndom.
