Spatial Planning II - Comprehensive Planning

The course deals with forms of comprehensive spatial planning in Sweden. Important planning documents and laws that govern comprehensive spatial planning work are described and analysed. Students practice how to collect, compile and analyse information, as well as how to handle planning documents, by completing a planning project task where process methodology and various planning tools are applied for the production of comprehensive plans. Students present their project work in the form of a written report in which they present their results using text and pictures. The interests, roles, mandates and resources of the various stakeholders that are involved are dealt with in terms of different planning situations and current discourses on comprehensive planning. Furthermore, power and equality perspectives are discussed in theory and practice. The course consists of parallel tracks with theoretical knowledge that is conveyed through lectures and literature, discussions in seminar form and the practical task of planning that involves the integration of theoretical knowledge and insights from the discussions.
