I kursen behandlas: - Centrala begrepp, definitioner och perspektiv inom det specialpedagogiska kunskapsområdet. - Specialpedagogikens framväxt som forsknings- och verksamhetsområde från historiskt, nationellt och internationellt perspektiv. - Barns och elevers varierande förutsättningar och stödbehov. - Olika sätt att beskriva och definiera funktionsnedsättningar, inbegripet neuropsykiatriska svårigheter. - Nationella och internationella styr- och policydokument. - Specialpedagogens kompetensområden. - Forskning och teori om specialpedagogens yrkesroll i relation till andra professioner. - Intervju som forskningsmetod. Kursen innehåller närträffar på plats vid Karlstads universitet samt fältstudier.
