Kursen behandlar relevanta utmaningar inom idrottspsykologin ur ett samhällsperspektiv och har tonvikt på samspelet mellan samhälle och psykologiska och sociala faktorer och dess konsekvenser för idrott, friskvård och hälsa. Kursen tar inom sfären idrott upp barn och ungdomars idrotts- och motionsvanor, samt utmaningar kopplat till inkluderande av olikheter olika diskrimineringsgrunder. Vidare behandlas, i ljuset av samhällets syn på elitidrott och idrottsidentitet olika utmaningar, effekter och konsekvenser av bland annat idrottsidentitet och karriärövergångar. Inom friskvård och hälsa tar kursen upp utmaningar som stillasittande och fysisk inaktivitet samt psykisk ohälsa bland barn och ungdomar. Psykologins och psykologens roll i idrotten kommer att behandlas. Kursinnehållet problematiseras utifrån ett mångfaldsperspektiv och grundläggande forskningsmetod belyses.
