Stora mängder data och information samlas in överallt i samhället; av företag, myndigheter och organisationer. För att förstå vår omvärld och för att analysera och tolka dessa stora datamängder behövs statistiska metoder. Statistik är en vetenskap som handlar om att ställa frågor om omvärlden och besvara dem på ett vetenskapligt sätt. Kursen Statistik B: Teori följer upp kursen Statistik A genom breddning och fördjupning av statistisk teori och metod. Kurserna Statistik A och Statistik B: Teori är speciellt utformade för att passa som ett värdefullt komplement till studier i andra ämnen. Därtill fungerar kurserna som en utgångspunkt för fortsatta studier i statistik. Kursen Statistik B: Teori läses med fördel tillsammans med Statistik B: Programmering och modellering. Kursen Statistik B: Teori består av två moment: Moment 1: Matematik för statistiker (6 hp) Moment 2: Sannolikhetsteori och statistisk inferensteori (9 hp)
