Overview
The course treats the physical principles of stellar atmospheres and methods for treating radiative transport in them. It takes up the basics for modelling such as continuum opacities, source functions, aspects of spectral line formation, curve of growth, as well as approximate methods such as Milne_Eddington, coherent scattering, non-LTE with complete redistribution and basic numerical methods. As a detailed example of relevant radiative processes it treats the VAL III model and its underlying physics.

Entry requirements
To enter this course a Bachelor's degree in physics, or similar, is required. In addition, knowledge similar to the courses Stellar Structure and Evolution, 7.5 ECTS credits (AS7010) and Astrophysical Spectra, 7,5 ECTS credits (AS7006) is required. Swedish upper secondary school course English 6 or equivalent.
