Overview
<p>The course draws upon current international research on urban environments, covering areas such as postcolonial studies, political geography, policy studies, and system studies. We analyse urban infrastructure for transportation, energy, waste, and water, as well as the planning and development of the built environment.</p><h2>From the city to the home</h2><p>The course concentrates on sustainability within and between different geographical levels in urban areas: city, neighbourhood, and home. Through the study of concrete international case studies, we discuss various policy and management strategies for addressing the challenges facing urban areas. We also explore power dynamics within the planning and development of cities and towns, as well as issues related to the connections and disconnections of different neighbourhoods.</p><h2>For those interested in sustainable development, urban planning, and politics</h2><p>This course is designed for students interested in delving deeper into sustainability issues within urban areas, including the complex interplay between politics, the environment, and societal development.</p><h2>Mixed study formats</h2><p>The course is conducted in English and includes lectures, seminars, site visits, and oral presentations.</p>

180 ECTS credits passed with 90 ECTS credits in one of the following areas: natural sciences, social sciences, humanities or engineering. 15 ECTS credits passed in Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development or equivalent. English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (Engelska 6 or Engelska nivå 2). Exemption from Swedish.
