Overview
The course is project-based, and some of the work is carried out in groups. Students are introduced to case studies where the task is to design two solar heating systems, one system for commercial buildings and another large-scale system. Systems are sized based on the load, and the system design is adapted to the temperature level of the load. Special attention is paid to the reliability and performance of the systems. The course includes lectures on a variety of system designs and applications, the solar heating circuit design, thermal storage, and control functions. The course also includes the design and analysis of system schematics, control functions, and solar thermal integration into existing heating systems with special attention to the load profile and temperature levels.
