<p>Designbegreppet problematiseras och fördjupas. Teknikutvecklingsarbetets olika moment tas upp, och studenterna gör ett eget designprojekt. En viktig del av kursen handlar om hur vi kan bli medvetna om och analysera de värderingar och andra faktorer som, öppet eller dolt, påverkar utformningen av en teknisk produkt eller ett system. Det rör t ex frågor om genus, kulturell acceptans, ekonomi och ergonomi. Produkters estetiska, affektiva, kommunikativa och sociala funktioner uppmärksammas. Härvidlag är inte bara modernt utvecklad teknik av intresse, utan ett historiskt perspektiv på olika designideal tillämpas också.</p>
