Textile Design

General admission requirements, plus: (i) artistic and creative ability to work, experiment, illustrate and realise textiles and other elements in an expressive way to clearly communicate an intended idea, (ii) technical skills in textile techniques, such as weaving, printing, sewing, embroidery, knitting, or other textile constructions, (iii) some critical-theoretical knowledge of the textile and design field. In addition, English 6 or English level 2 is required. The application portfolio, including a special application assignment designed to assess and demonstrate the eligibility requirements outlined above, is announced in January of the same year as admission for the autumn intake. In the Textile Design Programme, particular emphasis is placed on design research, the design process, experimentation for the artistic development of design ideas, as well as technical training and experimentation in studios and workshops. Therefore, it is important that the application portfolio demonstrates the applicant’s ability to develop ideas from visual research (material collection and processing of source material) to finished works with artistic quality, including composition and technical skills. Applications to the program are made on the basis of verified formal qualifications, along with a submitted application portfolio containing the specified application assignments and a CV. Selection Assessment of eligibility and selection is made on an artistic ground and is based on the portfolio review, work assignment done during the assessment day and interview. In the first stage, portfolios are evaluated for demonstrated artistic and technical ability, as well as some critical-theoretical knowledge within the textile and design field. In In the next stage, several applicants are invited to the assessment day. During this day, the applicants’ artistic and technical skills are tested, and in the interview, the applicant's qualifications and other merits are discussed. A final assessment of eligibility and ranking of applicants for admission is then carried out prior to admission. Selection is made among those deemed eligible by the evaluation team based on the criteria mentioned above and ranked highest in the overall assessment of abilities demonstrated in the application portfolio. Other qualifications, such as work and projects in fashion, design, or art with critical, technical, or artistic relevance, may be considered under the respective abilities in the selection process, but cannot be used to determine eligibility. Such merits may, however, influence the outcome if multiple eligible applicants are otherwise evenly ranked.
