Overview
Med utgångspunkt i kursens lärandemål behandlas frågeställningarna Vad är skola? och Varför har vi skola? Den svenska skolans samhällsuppdrag studeras utifrån ett utbildningshistoriskt samt internationellt jämförande perspektiv. Utbildningspolitiska och utbildningsfilosofiska ståndpunkter och tolkningar behandlas i förhållande till skolväsendets framväxt ur ett samhällsperspektiv. Med stöd av vetenskapliga begrepp som tillämpas vid studier av genus, etnicitet och klass analyseras den svenska skolans utveckling. Vidare studeras skolväsendets organisation och styrning samt skolans styrdokument med särskilt fokus på de grundläggande demokratiska värderingarna, inbegripet de mänskliga rättigheterna och barnkonventionen.
